I'm looking for any tips, advice, drills, whatever, to help reinforce a low dribble.

We do all the normal ball handling fundamentals, two ball, work on crossovers and all that stuff. But there are still a few girls who will take a dribble or two above their head when they are caught up in the action of a scrimmage or game.

This is 4th grade girls.

More control using fingertips vs. palm of hand for starters. You'll have to come up with a few drills on your own, but here's one you can modify for your 4th grade girls. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnRklE9VON4

Some of this might be a bit tougher for 4th grade girls, but I'm a big fan of Pete Maravich dribbling drills. Definitely old school, but search YouTube and you'll find a few vids.

Tougher with 4th grade girls, but using the metaphor of "hammering a nail in the floor" when they're dribbling. Maybe a stationary drill with one ball for short time spurts. Ankle high, knee high and waist high. Both left and right. You really want them pounding the ball into the court though on those drills while under control.

This is one of those skills that needs consistent reminders in practice, scrimmages, and games. When you see the higher dribble, you'll have to remind them to keep the dribble low and hammer the nail.
