When teaching and describing a front or reverse pivot to a player, what determines if it is a left or right pivot, the pivot foot or the swing foot?

It's always the pivot foot. On a left foot front pivot -- the left foot is planted and the right foot is the swing foot. On a left foot drop step -- the left foot is planted and the right foot is the swing foot dropping to the basket.
