I came across a basketball that was designed to be heavier than a normal ball. I am thinking the heavy ball is used for passing drills. My question is, could it be used for shooting practice from mid-range. The ball bounces like a normal basketball but it is noticeable heavier. My thought is it would be a good way to strengthen the shooting wrist. It would be used for college players who I work out with in the summer. Any thoughts on the use of the heavy ball for shooting or other individual drills? Thanks.

Scroll all the way down to the bottom of this page and you'll see our advice when it comes to over-sized basketballs:

I would not recommend shooting with a heavy ball. That could screw up your shot.
I have a 6 lb basketball-size heavy ball that I use only for passing drills, especially 3 man weave (no shot at end)...I'll run the 3 man weave for a number of times then sub in a regualtion ball and man, I gotta tell you, the players zip that ball around like it's filled with helium!!
