I help a friend of mine coach a small high school team with only ten players even trying out for the team. He is more interested in going to practice running a few drills and then scrimaging, does no teaching fundamentals which maybe two out of ten really know. nor does he teach any true offense how do I help the kids out in this situation?

Woah, tough situation to be in. HE is the Head Coach so you have to do what he wants.... but - IS he open to suggestions? This is a situation where you have to tread lightly - go slow and see how open he is to you making 1 or 2 changes at first. You have to earn his trust and make sure he knows that it is in the best interest of the kids. Maybe even make him think they are his ideas?

Why don't you just propose a few ideas, run them by him and see where it goes.
