Any suggestion for what to do with a team of 13 varsity girls of which for the most part our of pretty similar ability? How would you go about finding the best rotation?

The good thing is you can make practices competitive... always trying to earn playing time. So the motivation and effort should be there in practice.

Regarding rotations, you either go with your gut instincts or you have use stats to try to figure out the best rotations. Not really sure how to use stats since I have not tried that myself.

Another option is to use the VPS score or the competitive cauldron the Brian McCormick uses.

We use the VPS score to gauge player ratings and you can use practices, scrimmages, and games... to come up with player ratings. Then give the most playing time to the players with the top scores. Maybe a 9 or 10 player rotation.

Just some ideas to consider.

I like the concept of earning your right to be a starter. Rotation depends more on the flow of the game and having the right players on the court at the right time. Those decisions are why we get paid the big bucks. Ha!

I'm more in the camp of allowing the players to get in a rhythm on the court and trying to find the right mix, resulting in the biggest lead as early in the game as possible. Obviously, foul trouble, fatigue, off night, mismatches, etc., add to the decision making process.
