I really think it's apart of youth basketball. The yelling is simply reminding/telling players what to do on the fly during game situations. You practice all week but you can never predict gametime read and react decision-making with these kids. You're there to tell them to" Cut", Flash to Elbow" "Take Your Man", "Trap", "Rip It!!" "Stop Ball", "Bump Cutter", "Call Screen", "See Man, See Ball", "Stop Ball", "Shoot"....

I coach 10th grade girls AAU, I need to be vocal on sidelines....not to chastise..but to praise, reinforce, remind. Sometimes youth players just don't see everything going on around them. There are 100's of these 2 to 3 word reminders that coAches yell out during games....I really think it would be impossible to remian seated and quiet for any coach coaching on all levels. Basketball is so fluid and dynamic that coaches need to communicate and remind players continuosly during game play...unlike baskeball or football.
And yes..I still yell "shoot" because there are still players who are hesitant to shoot or unaware of how open they really are.

As long as it is not critcal or berating players...yelling out to players during games is common and acceptable. That's my take.
