I heard a highly successful Div 1 coach say at a clinic one time that the most important fundamental on defense was on the ball defense. His reasoning was that if you are constantly getting beat off the dribble and relying on help then your defense will fail regardless of what you're playing, m2m or zone.

My question though is not about this philosophy, but rather what teaching points do you guys are best when teaching on the ball defense and what drills do you use for this concept. Do you like a staggered stance or straight up? What do you teach with your hands? Etc...

I'm just looking for tips and drills because I feel my team needs to get better in this situation.
