What kind of defense would you recommend when facing a team that plays a 5 out offense and does lots of cutting with it? thanks

What age group is this.... IF you are a youth program, do your kids a favor and teach m2m.....

As for defending this offense.... m2m with great helpside defense.

I ran the Open Post offense and in this made our defense better too because we were forced to focus on help side.

Personally, we just run one defense (M2M) and we get really good at it. So I would not change our defense to anything else. When running man against an open post, you need players to jump to the ball so they are always in the correct 1 pass away position. This must be immediately after the pass (actually during the pass while the ball is in the air). They need to be good at guarding cuts (something you need to practice). And like Coach Sar said, the help defense must be great.

In other words, you just need really good defensive positioning and fundamentals. If you have poor defensive positioning and fundamentals, a good open post will really exploit your defensive breakdowns and inefficiencies. Just like almost everything, it comes back to have sound fundamentals which start on day one of practice. Good luck!
