This is Tony Brubaker and I coach the New Braunfels Christian Academy boy’s basketball team. I have a junior son, Cale, who plays for me now averaging 20 points a game. Problem is he has little offensive help from our wings. We do have one senior and one sophomore post, both 6-3. We faced three box and one defenses this week in a holiday tournament and I am looking for some new ideas or plays to use. Any thoughts or places to look would be great.

Tony,

Are there any other players that can shoot from the perimeter on your team? 1- You could overload one side away from Cale and play 3 on 2 there - 2 or you could have your son screen for one of the post players which would end up your son and his defender getting in the way of the post player.

I'm not sure I can describe #1 but here goes...... put two players on the block opposite your son..... 3 & 5 in a stack - have the point guard attack the top defender on that side getting into a position to pass the ball to either player.... as 3 steps out... 5 backscreens which ever way the defender wants to go - puts him on his back and seals him.... NOW - if 3 gets wide open - get him the ball... then he can either shoot it or have a two man game with 5. IF the low defender beats that back screen and goes out to cover 3 popping out... then after 5 back screens he can step into the middle slighty and ask for the ball.
I would put the other post player (4) on the opposite block to make sure he keeps the other defender busy - IF that defender leaves then 4 can step into the open area.

You could also run him off multiple screens on the baseline.

Thoughts?
