Post subject:  Defending Horns Sets?

Hi Coaches & Strategist,

Any helpful ideas on defending horns sets? I have seen various strategies.

1. ball pressure on the passer
2. pressure on the two posts to make that catch difficult
3. direct the guard in the direction of the least talented post player

Agree? Others?

There are hundreds of different horns plays.... so it kinda depends on the specific ones you're seeing?

This is just me. But I usually try not to focus on what the offense does and focus more on what we do... make them adjust to us instead of the other way around. We constantly pressure the ball and just follow really sound defense fundamentals. If we do all the normal the we preach well... the opponent should be forced to take tough shots using the horns sets. If not, we need to get better at our defensive fundamentals.

So I'm probably the wrong person to ask regarding tactical strategy. :)

With that said... If you have the personnel - you can switch all screens. You can double team all ball screens, double team first wing pass, double team when ball passes half court, etc. Things like that often disrupt teams that like to run sets. If they can't run their set they sometimes fall apart.

If you want to share the specific plays maybe we can provide more help / ideas.
