Post subject:  Trouble with Defense

I was wondering if any one had some tips on how to help my players defend taller opposition? Our defense is pretty good except when playing other teams who have multiple players that are much taller than us. They just shoot over top of our players over and over again. Any tips?
Thanks!

When defending taller players on the perimeter (or any player for that matter), we want constant ball pressure... staying close enough to touch the ball. If the player tries to shoot, we just put our hand on top of the ball so they can't shoot. No blocking shots.... stay in stance.

Here's how we defend the post at all times. Works well against good post players.

1 - Great on ball pressure... making it hard for the guard to make a good pass and/or see the post up.

2 - Try to deny post touches. 3/4 front in the post when ball is above free throw line. Full front with closed stance (forearm in the chest) when ball is below free throw line.

3 - Weakside help defender double teams on any post touch. Ball side perimeter player opens up to dig if needed, yet be close enough to get back out to stop the 3pt shot.

This is something you have to practice... doubling the post. We use shell drill with post -- sometimes guarded and other times unguarded.
