Hi,

I'm a female coach trying to inspire young male athletes, while teaching them basketball fundamentals. Thinking for themselves or inspiring creativity can be achieved by what? What are the 5 areas that I concentrate on in order to make them successful on the court?

Hi Coach,

I'm not sure how old your players are, but, You are doing them a great favor by teaching them the fundamentals of the game. The next thing you need to do is to teach them a love for the game, that way they will be willing to work hard to be successful.
Let them play and have some fun, that will help them to become creative on the floor, they need to have some freedom running your offense.
The five areas I would list are:
1- M2M defense
2- Ball handling skills (includes dribbling and passing)
3- Shooting form
4- Reading the defense ( so they know who and when to pass )
5- Being able to do the 4 above while on the move.

I'm sure there are many more but these are a good place to start. Let me suggest that the last thing you do at your pracitces ... make it something they like to do, make it FUN. That way they will want to come back. Good luck
Coach Sar

We would appreciate a reply to this post and HOW things are going.
