I would like to coach 5th grade boys in a positive way. I tend to be tough on them in games. I have coached for 12 years and I am good with them as far skills and drills. I just need to learn to always stay positive. Can you help in any way. Thank you

Here's one suggestion...

Morgan Wooten (all time winningest high school coach) suggests the "sandwich" technique.

Before giving out instructions or corrections, start with a complement, followed by the instructions, then another compliment...

"Great hustle down the floor Jimmy!! Next time, call out 'ball' so your teammates know who you're guarding. But great job hustling down and getting in your defensive stance."

Also, read this entire article closely.

Some of the books listed at the end provide you with inspiration each season and help you get refocused on the right things.

Great advice Jeff - make sure that you always say something good to them..... end your practices that way too - always on a positive note.
