Congrats and welcome to the club!

You have taken the right steps in getting prepared, which is great. If it makes you feel better, Don Kelbick told me years ago... "Remember, your players don't know what you don't know." He was right. Be yourself, be prepared, be confident. If you do those things, players have no idea that you are learning as you go too.

My advice is to make a list of the things you want to teach. Prioritize that list. Then make a practice plan. Being prepared and having that practice plan makes a huge difference.

I would write a letter to the parents and possible have a parent meeting. Let them know rules and what to expect. I think communicating ahead of time makes a big difference. Is playing time equal? How often will you practice? What are consequences if miss practice? What are you goals for the team (develop skills, character, win championships?). What is your coaching philosophy? Etc. If parents know this ahead of time things go much smoother and you can always refer to the letter you sent if questions . concerns come up.

Beyond that I would spent most of time developing skills (dribbling, passing, pivoting, lay ups, shooting). For offense I would teach motion. For defense I would teach half court man to man. I believe this is best for long term development. You might want to tell parents that -- running a zone or press might be more effective to win games... but that's not best for their development and learning fundamentals. Most parents don't understand this... but winning is not an indication of good youth coach.

Here are a few resources that I think are good for new coaches:
