I answered the volunteer call to coach my daughter's 3rd-4th grade team and I'm a bit freaked, to say the least. I've never been a coach of anything, and never played basketball. Until a couple months ago, I couldn't tell you the difference between a shooting star and a shooting guard. So, yeah, looking for some hand holding here.

I am told the coaches will get some training and such, and I've been educating myself by coming to this website, reading Basketball for Dummies, watching YouTube videos, and even reading Mike Lupica novels. Just installed a hoop for the driveway, also, and trying out some drills I've learned. I've got until October 16, the first practice day, to get un-freaked.

Here's my question: how do I present myself to the parents who are paying good money to send their kids to this league to learn and play basketball? I understand that in this age group, the idea is to focus on fundamentals and have fun, but I don't want to come across as a someone who just took a crash course in everything basketball, even though that's...who I am. Any advice?
