Hey guys, I want to know how I can improve my defense. Particularly in pickup basketball where communication with other players is pretty rare. I want to know how I can defend a player who passes it to another and then cuts hard to the basket. The player with the ball then passes to the cutter for an easy 2 points. I tell my teammates to switch man when that happens but they don't seem to listen. So does anyone know how to stop this individually? Thanks

That's the classic give and go basket cut. I would not switch on that! The person guarding the ball should deny this pass inside. As the pass is made, starting moving as the pass leaves the players finger tips (more while the ball is in the air). You should move the same direction the ball is doing and sink a little. Then get in denial position taking away the pass. Do not let the cutter go in front of you, stay between your man and the ball.

Watch this shell drill to see proper position of the defense on the pass:

Totally agree with Jeff here, deny the cut to the basket after the pass as much as possible. Hand out in front of player to deny pass back. Don't go for jab fake to the outside after the pass.
