Please answer this question for me: Using the book How To Develop A High Scoring Motion Offense, could I teach this to a group of 6th graders in one practice a week? Or am I better off just working on fundamental basketball skills?

Thanks,
John

If I were you, I would run a simple pass and cut motion offense and like you said....use the time to develop their fundamentals.

There is a lot to teach in this game and one practice a week has to be tough. Good luck.

John - The answer to both question is "yes". You can work on a very simple motion offense and teach fundamental skills. In fact you can work on skills while teaching your motion. You can do lay up drills (skills) that use pass and cut (piece of your motion and passing skills too). This is just one of many examples. You can do 3on3,4on4, and 5 on5 NO dribble drills (both half and full court). This teaches players how to move without the ball (get open in your offense), meet their pass, face the basket in triple threat, and improve passing skills. The list goes on. Here's an article addressing your specific situation:

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need anything else.
