I need some good offensive plays against a 1-3-1 defense. Also, how to break the 1-3-1 half court press. |

The primary purpose of a 1-3-1 is to cut off passing lanes and force a bad pass down low. Usually, teams are looking for the steal or a trap on the sides. The weakness is the high post can be quickly open drawing their low player up, and the corners are open. If you have the time, I suggest looking at how a 1-3-1 runs (short vids on YouTube), what the objective is, and then running it in practice. This will give your players (and you) a better understanding of how to beat it when you face it in a game. Most teams will run a 2-1-2 against it trying to force a 2 on 1 situation down lower. On the 1/2 court press, you naturally want to stay out of the trapping zones on the sides and not make soft lob passes. Highly recommend learning about and running any defense you're trying to beat. |
