My daughter is in 7th grade. She loves to play but is not getting any or much play time. Her coach has a few family members on the team and out of the fifteen or so girls only five play most games.he is related to four of them. Most games the other girls sit on the benches losing interest. We are in Connecticut. Is there a website or place i can find out if he should be playing all team members or can he just keep doing this ? would really love some hepl. Thanks

This is a political thing which is pretty difficult to fight. The rules regarding playing time would have to come from the school she is at or wherever she is playing. Most schools don't dictate playing time but it is sure worth looking in to. You might talk to the person in charge at your school... the Principal?

Other than that.... the only other thing I can think of is to find a park program where everyone has to play equal time.

15 is too many to have on a team. Even if you wanted to it would be really hard to get everyone playing time. 8 or 9 players on a youth team is just about right so you can give everyone meaningful minutes in a games.

BTW, the coach can most likely do whatever he/wants. You can check with the league rules but they probably don't address playing time. Best option is to probably find a different team that will focus on player development and equal playing time.

You didn't indicate what kind of program this is. School? Rec. league? Travel/AAU? Each program will have different rules and expectations. I have a hard time beliving he only plays 5 kids the whole game. Most coaches would have a 6 to 8 "man" rotation for a full game due to foul trouble and fatigue. How you handle it would depend on the type of program. Good luck.

I have been in a situation where I chose to place a number of girls on the team do to not having another coach to coach them and getting them in the game was hard also the skill levels where far apart in some girls so staying in games became difficult, winning is not the focus ,however getting beat badly all the time because you play less talented players more that will discourage players and parents--hard spot to be in to say the least--I played the kids no matter what 90% of the time but when we could win I explained to my girls when girls are playing well we let them play. That being said 15 kids is enough for 2 teams maybe you should coach a 2nd team, if your not happy with the situation sometimes it is best to form your own team and play. I encourage my parents to coach, I am a volunteer travel coach for school based teams as well as AAU teams I think grades 3 through 6 everyone should play however when is a good point to let your kid know where there skills are? 9th grade high school the girls that are playing now most likely will play then do to experience. I say form a 2nd team! get them playing time, nothing like game time BUT IT MUST BE EARNED, NOT GIVEN OR YOU ARE HELPING NO ONE!

GOOD LUCK
