My son (age 16) has unfortunately torn his ACL and has a long rehab ahead of him. He will lose this year's high school season but wants to try and maintain his skill as best as possible. His physio will work on his leg strength and agility as well as cardio conditioning. Our question would be if there are any drills or exercises you might recommend for him to work on (ball handling?) that he could do from a seated position as he will not be able to run/pivot for some time. Do you have any bball drills that can help his game while he is off his feet? Thanks

Sorry to hear about that..... there is not a lot he can do.... but he can lay on his back and dribble back and forth..... switch sides etc..... he can sit on a chair and work on a crossover..... tell him to use his imagination.... dribble the ball around the chair changing hands. Maybe some of the other coaches can come up with some other ideas.

Good luck, I hope things work out for him.

If it's of any help at all, the player below had an ACL blow out her junior year. She rehabbed and worked hard but her numbers were down her senior year. The surgery however did not take place until after her senior year because she wanted to play, hoping to play in college. It worked. The profile was sent to 40 schools, we acknowledged the injury but also her terrific potential when healed and she is now at Missouri State.

Adversity breeds strength. Hang in there and work hard.

We parner with a terrific physical therapist here in Michigan, feel free to contact them: GinaOtterbein@northernpts.com
