Post subject:  Helping Daugther With Coaching

Hi I am helping out with my 15 year old daughter as a first year coach. I have taken her through planning and preparation. The team is a group of under 12 girls and the issue is getting them all on the same page. Any suggestions.

That is tough. A 15 year old coaching. With time and more experience everything will get much better. I know I made plenty of mistakes and still do. You just constantly learn and get better.

I'm not really sure how to give advice to a 15 year old (hard for me to imagine coaching as a 15 year old). I'd say my best advice is:

- be yourself. don't try to fake it trying to be like someone else, players can tell.

- be organized and prepared. very important. sounds like you're already on right track there.

- be honest with your players

- be confident. it's not what you know it's what the players think you know. be confident in what you are doing, even if you are unsure about something. take charge in a respectful way and players will follow the lead.

Beyond that maybe if you can give details on what exactly what needs to "get on the same page" regarding the players, maybe we can give more suggestions.

The good news is they'll probably be able to relate to her since she's closer in age with them. Assuming we're talking about a recreational league here not an AIU or competitive team?

Solid advice from Jeff.

I'm with Jeff, can you provide a bit more in terms of specifics on "getting them on the same page". Usually, a few dozen laps around the gym will get them on the same page. ; )
